Hydra is affilliated with the following programs and organisations:

The Hydra coordinater FhG FIT is a member of ARTEMISIA, the association for R&D actors in the field of ARTEMIS: Advanced Research & Technology for EMbedded Intelligence and Systems.

The Hydra middleware allows developers to create inclusive applications with a high degree of accessibility for all. The Hydra project supports the Commissions campaign: eInclusion - be part of it!

The Hydra project is part of the Cluster of European projects on the Internet of Things. The Cluster aims to promote a common vision of the Internet of Things.

The Hydra project is co-funded by the European Commission within the Sixth Framework Programme in the area of Networked Embedded Systems under contract IST-2005-034891

Intelligent Media Systems and Services Laboratory (imss) is a multi-disciplinary research laboratory, part of the Computer Science Department, School of Systems Engineering.

hhhhThe Laboratory members and research associates have a track record of successful collaborative research projects centred on:

  • Semantic and personalised service-oriented software engineering,
  • Informatics of multimedia, mobile and collaborative computing,
  • Workflow - embedded knowledge management and CBR,
  • Neuro-genetic techniques applied to large scale pattern recognition condition monitoring and optimisation problems e.g. Speech Recognition, Dynamic Scheduling & Mission Management,
  • Technology - enhanced learning experience and creativity acceleration,
  • Enterprise Application Integration, System Testability Framework, QoS Evaluation,
  • Technology Diffusion & Appropriation,
  • Secure AAA – Identity Management.

The Laboratory has a record of global-scale research collaboration within a network of networks that includes key industrial sectors, as well as major multi-national corporations, and, leading intermediary organisations in the public and private sectors worldwide.

Through its alliances with leading regional and national gateway organisations, imss has a strong record in conducting advanced usability research which has seen the development of ground breaking paradigms for Dynamic User-Intimate Co-Design and Evaluation of Information Systems.

The Usability Research at imss has networked access to some of the important user-groups such as the young adults and the senior citizens as test-beds and proving grounds for researching technology acceptance, appropriation and evaluation of innovative and disruptive technologies such as those intended to support the following applications:

  • The mobile work/home/office, immersive experience and lifestyle portals,
  • Social computing, grid-assisted P2P and Body Area Networks,
  • Haptics and emotionally-intelligent networks of Ambient Computing,
  • Personalised Data Protection, Privacy, Security and Advocacy Services,
  • Digital Government & e-Democracy Virtual Living Test-Beds.

imss is a partner in the EU FP6 Flagship Integrated Research Programme called AXMEDIS Automating Production of Multimedia Content for Multi-Channel Distribution ~ €20M ) leading the research on workflow integration with some 23 partners including world-class research groups e.g. DSI University of Florence (Axmedis Coordinator) and HP Research Labs.

The following are examples of imss member roles and responsibilities which are indicative of imss perspective and depth of its engagement with the real technology challenges relevant to the quality-of-life experience, health and prosperity of the Information Society and its citizens everywhere.

  • United Kingdom Academy of Information Systems (UKAIS, established 1995; Regional Chair and Board Membership).
  • Monet, European IST Research Network of Excellence; member.
  • East of England Telematics Development Trust (EETDT, established 1998, http://www.telematicseast.org.uk/; Hon. Directorships; Research Board.
  • e2eResearch Ltd (Hon. Chairmanship; Research Board).
  • Process Intelligence, Innovation and Evaluation Research Group (P3i.e;Founding Chairs, established 1995).
  • Electronic Content & Knowledge Management for Personalised Systems & Services (P3i.e.-EnCkompass); Founding Chairs; established 1999.

Role in the project:

imss is contributing to several work packages with focus on context awareness, virtualisation and security within the Hydra framework. These work packages are:
  • WP2 (Iterative user requirements engineering)
  • WP3 (Architecture design specification)
  • WP5 (Wireless networks & devices)
  • WP7 (Trust, privacy and security)

Also, imss is leading the Training work package which is responsible for developing training material both for internal and external use.
