The Hydra coordinater FhG FIT is a member of ARTEMISIA, the association for R&D actors in the field of ARTEMIS: Advanced Research & Technology for EMbedded Intelligence and Systems.


The Hydra middleware allows developers to create inclusive applications with a high degree of accessibility for all. The Hydra project supports the Commissions campaign: eInclusion - be part of it!



The Hydra project is part of the Cluster of European projects on the Internet of Things. The Cluster aims to promote a common vision of the Internet of Things.

Francesco Niglia: Head of ICT Unit, has a degree in Aeronautical Engineering Polytechnic of Torino. Participation at EUROMECH 360 “MECHANICS OF SANDWICH STRUCTURES: Modelling, Numerical Simulation, Experimental Identification” - Ecole des Mines de Saint Etienne. Master in Enterprise Management. Consultancy Engineer at INNOVA (ICT unit responsible). Expert in R&D project management and technology valorisation. Wide experience in training on innovation and TT topics Analysis and writing of Co-operative Research Projects for SME. Writing of several projects in aeronautical, aerospace and ICT fields for Innova’s clients. Performing feasibility analysis of project ideas and writing pre-screening report under the various EU and Italian IST and AEROSPACE work-programmes; Technical Managing of several European and Italian Research Project. Currently project manager of 3 EU funded projects.

Tommaso Foglia: Senior Consultant, has a degree in Electrical Engineering (University of Bologna, Italy). Experience in technology transfer, project management and benchmarking of technologies. From 2003 to 2006 responsible of INNOVA’s office in Bologna (Italy). Currently project coordinator of 1 EU funded project. Responsible and coordinator of specific measures for SMEs carried out by INNOVA. The main competencies regard the following items:

  • Hybrid Power Systems (HPS) and Renewable energies
  • Industrial laser systems
  • Deposition systems for nanostructured thin film
  • RFID systems

Valerio Grosso: Junior Consultant, has a degree in Industrial Engineering (University of Naples, Italy). Experience in lean production, quality and security.

Areas of expertise:Innova S.p.A. is a private company specialised in Technology Transfer services. Established in 1993 it now has 5 branches in Italy (Roma, Cosenza and Lecce). Innova assists industrial and research organisations in the implementation of their innovation strategies for the assessment and exploitation of advanced technologies and the valorisation of R&D results.

It is made up of a pool of 40 professional consultants and experts who have developed a long standing and consolidated knowledge in the R&D and marketing activities conducted with highly qualified European companies and universities. Easy access to world-class R&D institutions, international partnership and constant monitoring of the most advanced technology solutions are the visible indications of Innova’s commitment to technology transfer and exploitation, its main priority and mission.

Since 1996 it has promoted more than 1500 international projects of R&D and technology transfer actions on a European scale, maintaining strict relations of collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Research and the European Commission within the European Framework Programmes of R&D.

25% of Italian technology transfer actions are supported by Innova.

Role in the project:

INNOVA is responsible of the WP 10 – Validation & business framework, whose main objectives are:
  • Development of a validation plan for validation of user scenarios, functionalities, context awareness, trust, privacy and security according to the validation plan.
  • Definition and description of proper stakeholder roles.
  • Definition of business modelling and identification of value creation in HYDRA installations.
  • Description of realistic business cases for to be used for creating exploitation plans.
  • Formulation of proper exploitation strategies.
In addiction INNOVA is involved in other non technical activities and in particular in the WP 8 – System integration and testing and in the WP 9 – User applications.
