Hydra is affilliated with the following programs and organisations:

The Hydra coordinater FhG FIT is a member of ARTEMISIA, the association for R&D actors in the field of ARTEMIS: Advanced Research & Technology for EMbedded Intelligence and Systems.

The Hydra middleware allows developers to create inclusive applications with a high degree of accessibility for all. The Hydra project supports the Commissions campaign: eInclusion - be part of it!

The Hydra project is part of the Cluster of European projects on the Internet of Things. The Cluster aims to promote a common vision of the Internet of Things.

The Hydra project is co-funded by the European Commission within the Sixth Framework Programme in the area of Networked Embedded Systems under contract IST-2005-034891

Partner SIT

Partner:

The Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology - SIT

Country:

Germany

Type:

Key persons:

Mario Hoffmann, Manuel Matthess, Jan Peter Stotz

Areas of expertise:

The Fraunhofer Institute SIT is one of the pioneers within the field of IT-Security in Germany and Europe and has experience in development and promotion of security technologies and in embedding of security technologies into already established applications to make them trustworthy. Comprising about 100 employees SIT offers highly reliable and individual services in assuring the protection of infrastructures and networks that are enterprise-critical.

SIT is a steady and responsible partner to business, industry, and government departments – such as DoCoMo EuroLabs, Fujitsu, Siemens, Deutsche Telekom, BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research), and BSI (German Federal Office for Information Security). SIT plays vital and active roles in several bodies for standardisation and scientific research. HYDRA will specifically take advantage of contributions to the Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) – a global pre-standardisation body.

Major projects addressed in the research department “Secure mobile Systems” are currently dedicated to the analysis and the design of secure seamless roaming and handover mechanisms for convergent wireless and mobile networks. In the area of secure identification technologies (smartcards, biometrics, electronic signature and public key infrastructures) the Fraunhofer Institute SIT belongs to the leading IT developers. The third important field for HYDRA is security modelling and model validation. SIT has developed methods and tools to formally specify system models and security requirements, which enable the developer to simulate the system and verify the properties. Concrete experience is gained in the SIT section for “Practical System Security”, and the use of the SIT Security Test Laboratory.

Role in the project:

SIT’s role in HYDRA is the driver of application’s security enhancements and new security concepts for open systems. SIT strives for establishing open security standards and balancing stakeholder’s interests in an approach of multilateral security enabling collaborative systems to securely interoperate across domains.

SIT participates in 8 Work packages:

  • WP2 (Iterative user requirements engineering)
  • WP3 (Architecture design specification)
  • WP4 (Embedded AmI architecture)
  • WP5 (Wireless networks & devices)
  • WP6 (SOA and MDA middleware)
  • WP7 (Trust, privacy and security)
  • WP8 (Prototypes and system integration)
  • WP13 (Dissemination and exploitation)
