New paper on composition of services
The paper discusses how composition of services, i.e., providing new services by only combining existing, is a pervasive idea in ubiquitous computing. The authors surveyed the field by looking at what features are actually present in technologies that support service composition in some form. By condensing this list into a list of features them discuss the qualitative merits and drawbacks of various approaches to service composition, focusing in particular on usability and modifiability. They also identified the need for further research into quality-of-service assurance of composites and into contingency management for composites - one of the concerns differentiating service composition in ubiquitous computing from its less dynamic settings.
